Gluten Free Chocolate Beer Cake

Golden Era is a new brand of beer which boasts itself as a gluten-free American pale-ale in the UK. Using a unique blend of ancient grains of quinoa, buckwheat, millet and liberty hops, Golden Era has a surprisingly light body with welcomed citrus undertones.
As a test we decided to pass a few bottles around various members of the team here at Cranble HQ, and the consensus was overwhelming. Despite the initial thoughts and stigma behind a gluten free beer, the team were surprised at the light body and dryness Golden Era carried, and really enjoyed the samples. Prying the last bottle away from the team before they could crack it open, we decided we wanted to do something special with this product- thus our very own gluten free Chocolate Beer Cake was filmed!
This recipe uses Golden Era as the gluten free beer ingredient, however any other suitable gluten free beer could also work.

Golden Era will be available in selected outlets across East London and can be purchased online through Beer Hawk.

This Gluten Free Chocolate Beer Cake is made with a Gluten Free Ancient Grain Beer called Golden Era.

  2. Mix together the Flour, Sugar, Bicarbonate of Soda and Baking Powder.

  3. Add three eggs and begin to mix.

  4. Once the mixture is starting to clump together, add 250 ml of Gluten Free Beer.

  5. Add 110 grams of softened butter and continue to mix.

  6. Add the Cocoa powder and mix together until the mixture is smooth and contains no lumps.

  7. Place inside lined cake tin and into the oven for around 20 minutes. Keep checking the mixture to ensure that it is baking throughout, if it requires longer then do so diligently.

  8. For the frosting cream together the icing sugar, 250 grams of butter, 2 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of gluten free beer and 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence in a bowl. Continue until the mixture is smooth and there are no lumps before storing in a dry and cool place.
